Taryn Kedzior Named Finalist For Ken B. Jones Award

Soccer Standout - And Recent Grad - Up For MIAA's Top Female Student-Athlete

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced Tuesday its finalists for the Ken B. Jones Award and University of Central Oklahoma soccer standout Taryn Kedzior was among the group.

The MIAA announced five finalists among female student-athletes and five finalists among male student-athletes. Ashlan Burton (Central Missouri), Kedzior, Whitney Randall (Fort Hays State), Faith Rottinghaus (Washburn) and Maddie Squiers (Nebraska Kearney) are the female finalists.

The Ken B. Jones Award recognizes the association's top female and male student-athletes from the academic year, with a focus on three categories – academic achievement, athletic achievement, and community service.

The Ken B. Jones Award is named in honor of the MIAA's first full-time commissioner, who was appointed in 1981. The league began honoring its top student-athletes with the award in his honor in 1993-94.

Kedzior, who was also named the Most Outstanding Female Student-Athlete at Central Oklahoma and is a two-year recipient of the Presidential Award, is one of the more decorated student-athletes in UCO history.

She is an All-American soccer player that won MIAA Freshman of the Year in 2018 and bookended her career with MIAA Defender of the Year in 2021, helping the Bronchos to three MIAA championships and three NCAA national tournament appearances during her career.

Kedzior graduated earlier this month with her bachelor's degree, majoring in Biomedical Sciences. A 4.0 student who has been accepted into medical school, she shined off the field just as much, serving in numerous leadership roles with her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, and on other campus organizations.
