Central Oklahoma Hosts Oklahoma Baptist

EDMOND – The UCO baseball team is scheduled to wrap up a season-long three-game series against Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday at Wendell Simmons Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
Central Oklahoma opened the 2022 season with a win against OBU in the Fourth Annual Edmond First Pitch Classic Feb. 6 and the Bronchos also beat the Bison in Shawnee March 8.
 
Central Oklahoma is 24-16 overall this season. The Bronchos are on a two-game win streak and are 7-4 in the month of April. Oklahoma Baptist comes to Edmond with 20-18 overall record and the Bison are looking to snap a two-game skid. OBU is 5-5 in April.
 
"They're a good team and they hit the ball well," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "They're always a tough opponent that you have to be ready to compete against. We're looking to finish strong so we need to show up ready to play."
 
UCO has eight games left in the 2022 regular season. The Bronchos host all of them. Central Oklahoma is scheduled to play a three-game MIAA series against Central Missouri this weekend. UCO is also scheduled to host East Central next Tuesday and the Bronchos will wrap up the regular season with a three-game MIAA series against Emporia State next weekend.
 
Central Oklahoma is averaging 7.7 runs per game this season off 9.5 hits per game. The Bronchos have plated 309 total runs in 40 games played.
 
Garrett Takamatsu, who is hitting an even .300 through 40 games, leads the team in several offensive categories. He has the most runs scored (39), home runs (14) and runs batted in (43). He's also been hit more times than any other player (15) and is second on the team with 45 hits.
 
Clayton Peterson has led the Broncho offense too this season. He, along with Takamatsu, has played and started in all 40 games. Peterson has more hits (53) and doubles (10) than any other Broncho. He is second in RBIs (41) behind Takamatsu and is third in runs scored (31).
 
Landen Wood (.330) and Jaden Parsons (.324) also lead the team on offense. Trevor Stevens (.353) and Seth Gray (.308) and Wyatt Gray (.300) have also been key with the bat in their hands.
 
Kaleb Glass, who is hitting .259, is second on the team in runs scored behind Takamatsu. He's touched home plate 32 times this season. Glass also has seven doubles, three triples and three home runs and he leads the team with 18 stolen bases (21 attempts).
 
Defensively, Central Oklahoma is allowing 5.9 runs per game on 8.3 hits per game. UCO has outscored its opponents 309-237 in 40 games played. The Bronchos also average 9.7 strikeouts per game. UCO's pitching staff has a team earned run average of 5.57 and has 391 total strikeouts through 40 games.
 
Oklahoma Baptist averages 9.2 runs per game on 11.1 hits per game. The Bison have scored 351 total runs in 38 games this season. OBU as a team hits .321 at the plate and the pitching staff has a 6.32 team ERA through 38 games.
