Harper, Lynch Earn MIAA Accolades

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 11) – Central Oklahoma swept MIAA Softball Athletes of the Week as presented by Mammoth Turf, the league office announced Monday.

Shayla Harper was named Hitter of the Week and Kylee Lynch earned Pitcher of the Week honors after the duo led the No. 10-ranked Bronchos to four conference road wins over the weekend.

Harper batted .583 with a 1.167 slugging percentage and .667 on-base percentage in leading UCO's offense. The junior third baseman had seven hits in 12 at bats with two home runs, one double and six runs batted in while also scoring six runs.

Harper had a homer in each game of a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln, then went 3-for-5 with a pair of walks in two wins over Central Missouri in claiming the weekly award for the second time this season.

Lynch threw complete-game shutouts in both games over the weekend in winning the weekly honor for the third time. The sophomore left-hander allowed just six hits and didn't walk a batter in 13 total innings while striking out 13 as opponents hit a mere .133.

Lynch fanned a career-high 10 and threw a two-hitter in a six-inning 9-0 run-rule win over Lincoln, then came back the next day to toss a four-hitter with three strikeouts in a 6-0 victory over Central Missouri. She retired the final 11 batters of the game against UCM.

The Bronchos, 34-6 overall and 13-1 in the MIAA, close out the regular season home schedule this weekend with four games. UCO hosts Northeastern State for a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday before taking on No. 3 Rogers State in a noon twinbill Saturday on Senior Day.
