No. 4 Central Oklahoma Hosts Northeastern State

EDMOND – The ITA announced new national rankings Thursday and Central Oklahoma dropped two spots and is now the No. 4 in the country.

Central Oklahoma, 7-1 on the year, is hosting Northeastern State Friday in the first MIAA contest of the year for both squads. NSU, not nationally ranked, is 3-6 overall this season.
 
First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
Central won the 2021 MIAA regular season title as well as the league's postseason championship. No MIAA contests were played in 2020, but the Bronchos also won the 2019 MIAA postseason championship after finishing second place at 8-1 in the league.
 
UCO brings a 10-game MIAA win streak into Friday afternoon's contest. The Bronchos have won 18 consecutive matches against MIAA schools in all competition including the postseason and Indoor nationals.
 
Central Oklahoma still has four individuals in the national rankings and two of its three doubles teams.
 
Mae Canete, who is 6-2 this season, is ranked No. 2 in the country. Christine Canete, 6-1 on the year, is ranked No. 6 in the country. Adel-Byanu Abidullina is ranked No. 15 in the country and is a perfect 6-0 on the season. Grace Chadick, who is 3-4 on this her freshman season, is ranked No. 70 in the country.
 
The Canete sisters together are 6-2 this season and the duo, which won the ITA national doubles championship in the fall, are ranked No. 2 in the country.
 
Nikki Boyar and Blythe Buntrock are also ranked No. 32 in the country in the latest ITA Doubles rankings. The duo is 5-2 this season.
 
Central Oklahoma has won two in a row against Northeastern State. The Bronchos won in the regular season in 2019 and 2021, both in Tahlequah, and go for a third straight Friday at 2 p.m.
