Senior Day Sweep For UCO Tennis

Bronchos Win Big In Final Home Match

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma celebrated Senior Day in riveting fashion with a 7-0 skunk of Arkansas Fort Smith Saturday at Broncho Courts.

UCO improved to 14-3 on the season with the win and is now 6-1 in the MIAA. The win was the third consecutive for Central.

The Bronchos have just two matches left in the regular season – next week at Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney. UCO is in a three-way tie for first place in the MIAA standings and could clinch a share of the league title with a pair of wins to close out the year.

Saturday in Edmond, the Bronchos began the dual with a familiar song in doubles play. UCO got an early win at No. 3 doubles via forfeit, then won 6-2 at both No. 2 and No. 1 doubles to clinch the point with the sweep. Central Oklahoma improved to 21-0 in doubles competition in MIAA matches this season.

With a UAFS forfeit at No. 6 singles, the Bronchos were quickly up 2-0. Anika Ouwejan won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and Pete Komada won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to make it 4-0 and clinch the match for the Bronchos.

Mei Hasegawa won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Karyna Yurchenko won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, and Dilay Ata wrapped up the sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles to push the lead to the final, 7-0.
