Bronchos Brush Off NSU

Central Oklahoma Wins 5-2 Thursday In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma picked up another MIAA win Thursday with a 5-2 victory over Northeastern State at Broncho Courts.
 
UCO improved to 13-3 overall on the season and is now 5-1 in the MIAA. The Bronchos have more regular season home game Saturday at 2 p.m. against Arkansas Fort Smith on Senior Day.
 
Thursday, Central continued a dominant run of doubles play to set the tone early. UCO won all three positions for the seventh consecutive match, including all six MIAA contests, and grabbed an early 1-0 lead.
 
Mei Hasegawa and Pete Komada, ranked No. 10 in this week's ITA Doubles Top 50, won 6-2 at the top spot in the lineup. Ayaka Koga and Anika Ouwejan won by the same score at No. 2 doubles and Karyna Yurchenko and Hui Soo won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles to earn the sweep.
 
It's the 11th time this season the Bronchos have won all three doubles positions and the 14th time in 16 matches UCO has won the doubles point.
 
Leading 1-0 going to singles, the UCO dominance was more of the same.
 
At No. 3 singles, Ouwejan won 6-4, 6-0 to make it 2-0. Hasegawa won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 to make it 3-0. And Dilay Ata won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 to make it 4-0 and clinched the match for the Bronchos.
 
NSU got a win at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 7-5 over Komada, then Soo put up another point for the Bronchos with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, and finally one more for the guests at No. 4 singles with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win over Yurchenko to make it the final, 5-2.
 
Central Oklahoma welcomes UAFS to Edmond on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Lions are 3-12 overall this season and 1-4 in the MIAA. Fort Smith plays at Newman on Friday before coming to Edmond.
