Central Oklahoma Wraps Up Regular Season This Weekend

Bronchos Visit Rogers State Friday, Newman Sunday

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Central Oklahoma enters the final weekend of the 2022 regular season with two MIAA road matches, beginning with a trip to Rogers State Friday night.

UCO will also visit Newman Sunday afternoon.

"We've talked a lot about finishing strong," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We had a good week last week and we want to continue to play at that level. If we can do that, then we can finish strong and head to the playoffs on a good note."

Central Oklahoma is 11-2-3 overall this season and has a 6-2-1 record in the MIAA. The Bronchos are currently in second place in the league standings. UCO can finish as high as first and no lower than fifth depending on the results of this weekend's final two matches.

Central Oklahoma tied Rogers State earlier this year, 1-1, in Edmond. The Bronchos were down 1-0 in the fifth minute and spent most of the game trailing before an 81st minute equalizer saved the point.

Fast forward six weeks later and Central Oklahoma looks to finish strong. The Bronchos are averaging an even 2.0 goals per game this season, taking 13.6 shots per contest. UCO has put 107 of 217 total shots on goal.

Amaya Grace leads the Bronchos into this final weekend. She was named MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week earlier this week. Grace has a team-high eight goals and is second on the squad with four assists. Her 20 points leads the team.

Grace scored three goals last week and has four in her last four games.

Caroline Faulkner also earned recognition from the MIAA last week as she was named MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week. Faulkner is 6-1-3 in goal this season with a 0.87 goals against average. She's made 55 saves and has an .873 save percentage.

Faulkner's work on defense is a big reason UCO is allowing just 0.88 goals per game this season.

Helping Grace on the offensive side of the ball is Madison Linavong, whose five goals and nine assists give her 19 points this season. Linavong ranks second in the MIAA with nine assists.

Monika McGee (four), Lauren Piper (three) and Eden Jones (three) have all been key in the offensive output for Central this season.

Rogers State welcomes Central Oklahoma to Claremore with a 4-6-6 overall record and a 1-4-4 record in the MIAA.

The Hillcats average one goal per game, scoring 16 goals in as many matches. Rogers has allowed 15 goals, an average of 0.94 per game.
