Central Oklahoma Welcomes Midwestern State

Broncho Home Opener Set For Saturday Under The Lights

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team, ranked 10th in the country in the United Soccer Coaches' Top 25, is scheduled to make its 2021 home debut Saturday with a 7 p.m. kickoff against Midwestern State at Tom Thompson Field.

Central Oklahoma is 0-1 in 2021, having come up short 2-1 at seventh-ranked Dallas Baptist on Thursday night in north Texas. Midwestern State is 1-0 after a 3-0 win at Northwestern Oklahoma State Thursday.

"We played well in certain areas on Thursday and we identified some things we need to work on, now we have a chance to build on that Saturday," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We'd like to see some more offense and tighten up on defense. Midwestern is a good team and is coming off a win so we'll need to be locked in and focused."

Eden Jones, a third-year sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, scored Central's lone goal Thursday in Dallas. The midfielder scored three goals in 2019 as a true freshman and also notched a couple last spring in UCO's unofficial 2020-21 pandemic-affected season.

Jones scored in the fourth minute Thursday night. She took three shots in the game, putting two on target.

Central took 13 shots in its 2021 season opener. Madison Linavong and Emily Tincher both put shots on goal along with Jones.

Kaitlyn Asher played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bronchos Thursday night. The fifth-year senior made six saves, eclipsing the 100-save mark for her career. An All-MIAA performer and three-time MIAA postseason tournament champion, Asher has 102 career saves for the Bronchos.

Midwestern State rolled to a breezy 3-0 win at Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Oklahoma Thursday night. Cassidy Savoy scored goals in the 32nd and 35th minutes. Lexi Beck added one more in the 82nd. Taylor Camp played all 90 minutes in goal and made six saves.

Central Oklahoma is opening a three-game homestand with Saturday night's contest. UCO will welcome Oklahoma Christian Thursday, Sept. 9 before hosting Oklahoma Baptist Saturday, Sept. 11 at Tom Thompson Field.
