Central Oklahoma Visits Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team is scheduled to play its final non-conference match of the season Friday night at Rogers State before opening MIAA play Sunday at Northeastern State.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday. The short, Oklahoma road swing opens a four-game road trip for the Bronchos, who will play at Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney next weekend.

"We've seen some good things from the team early in the season," UCO associate head coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "We also have seen some things that we need to work on. I don't think we're in a bad place going into conference play. The MIAA is a tough league but the team is working hard to play our style of soccer and we're looking forward to a good weekend."

Central Oklahoma is 3-2-1 this season and coming off a 2-2 draw at Newman. The Bronchos beat NSU 4-0 last Friday night in Edmond in the first of three non-conference matchups against MIAA opposition.

UCO is averaging 2.5 goals per game this season, having netted 15 shots in six contests. The Bronchos have taken a whopping 107 shots in six games. That 17.8 shots per game mark is the third highest rate in the league. Central has put 59 of 107 shots on goal, which is the most of any MIAA school.

Kassidy Collins leads Central Oklahoma on the offensive this season. The second-year freshman from Owasso, Oklahoma has a team high five goals scored to go with two assists, which is tied for the team lead. Collins has taken a team high 17 shots in six games, including putting 10 of those on goal.

Eden Jones is right on Collins' heals with four goals scored in six games. Jones has done that with just seven shots, including six on goal.

Monika McGee also has two goals scored this season and both came in the same game – a win for the Bronchos over Oklahoma Christian. Madison Linavong, Taryn Kedzior, Meredith Wilson and Brooke Moore all have one goal each for UCO through six games.

Defensively, Central is allowing 1.3 goals per game, having conceded eight goals in six games. UCO's defense has also only allowed 45 total shots in six games and 32 of those have been on goal.

Kaitlyn Asher has played in 5 of 6 games as the Broncho goalkeeper. The fifth-year senior from Bixby, Oklahoma has allowed just four goals in 314 minutes of action. She has six saves and is 2-0-1 while in goal. Olivia Vigil has a team-high 10 saves in just 111 minutes of time in goal and Carolina Faulkner has made eight saves in 134 minutes in goal.

Rogers State welcomes Central Oklahoma to Claremore with a 5-0-1 record this fall. The Hillcats won their first five matches of the season by a combined score of 15-3 before tying Northeastern State 1-1 last weekend.

Vanessa Gonzalez leads the team with four goals and has a team-high 19 shots taken. Desiree Morgas is right behind Gonzalez with 17 shots taken and has two goals scored through six contests. Savannah Harvey has played all six games in goal for RSU and has 24 saves while allowing just four goals in 548 minutes of play.

UCO has won all three meetings against Rogers State historically. The Bronchos picked up a 2-0 win in 2018 before the Hillcats joined the MIAA. UCO won in 4-1 in the non-conference matchup between MIAA schools in 2019 before winning the official conference game 1-0 later that season.
