Central Oklahoma Hosts Northeastern State

Bronchos Wrap Up Early Season Homestand Friday Night

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team wraps up a four-game homestand Friday night when the Bronchos take on longtime rival Northeastern State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Tom Thompson Field.
 
UCO is 2-2 this fall, putting a pair of shutout victories in between two one-goal losses. Central lost 2-1 to now second-ranked Dallas Baptist in the season opener before blanking Midwestern State (1-0) and Oklahoma Christian (4-0). UCO lost 4-3 to Oklahoma Baptist last Saturday night.
 
Northeastern State is 2-1-1 this fall. The Riverhawks of Tahlequah, Oklahoma lost 3-1 at Southwestern in the season opener before flipping that score in a win against Ouachita Baptist. After a scoreless tie at Southwest Baptist, NSU beat Harding 2-0.
 
Central Oklahoma boasts a 22-6-3 all-time record against Northeastern State, dating back to the first season the Bronchos played soccer in 1998. The last official meeting between the two schools came in the postseason. UCO and NSU played for the 2019 MIAA Championship. The two teams tied 1-1, but it was the Bronchos coming away with the trophy after clipping the Riverhawks in a penalty shootout.
 
UCO welcomes Northeastern to Edmond averaging 2.25 goals per game this season. The Bronchos have taken 64 shots in four games, a 16 shots per game average. That includes 35 shots on goal, almost nine per game.
 
Kassidy Collins, Monika McGee and Eden Jones each have two goals scored this season. Madison Linavong, Meredith Wilson and Brooke Moore each have scored once.
 
Central Oklahoma has assisted on 7 of 9 goals scored in four games. Emily Tincher's two assists lead the team. Collins, Linavong, Wilson, and Taryn Kedzior and Lauren Hinnenkamp all have one assist.
 
UCO is allowing 1.5 goals per game this season. The Bronchos have only allowed their opponents to take 34 total shots in four games and only 22 have been shots on goal.
 
Kaitlyn Asher has played the most time in goal for Central. The fifth-year senior has made six saves and has a 1.45 goals against average.
 
Northeastern State averages 1.5 goals per game this season. Callie Rucker has scored three of the team's six goals through four games. Payton Lieb has two and Hayley Garcia one.
 
Ainsley Cunningham has played 335 of a possible 380 minutes in goal for NSU and has 16 saves to a 1.07 goals against average.
 
UCO will play three MIAA schools as non-conference opponents before opening its 11-game league schedule next weekend. The Bronchos host Northeastern State, then travel north to Newman in Wichita, Kansas. Next Friday, UCO visits Rogers State as the final non-con before visiting Northeastern State in Tahlequah for the first MIAA game of the season.
