Central Oklahoma Hosts Oklahoma Baptist

Saturday Night Non Conference Kicks Off At 7 p.m.

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team is scheduled to play its third straight home game as part of a four-game homestand Saturday night, when the Bronchos host Oklahoma Baptist at Tom Thompson Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Central Oklahoma is 2-1 this season and on a two-game win streak. Oklahoma Baptist is 0-3 this season.

"They have a good team," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We played them in the national tournament just a couple years ago and they were ranked in the preseason just like we were so I think it will still be a tough game. We're going to need to come out and play an aggressive attack and try to get in front early."

Central Oklahoma was ranked 10th in the country in the preseason before a season-opening 2-1 loss to now No. 2 Dallas Baptist bumped the Bronchos from the rankings. UCO responded to the setback with a 1-0 win over Midwestern State before dismantling Oklahoma Christian 4-0 Thursday night leading into this weekend's matchup with OBU.

The Bronchos are averaging two goals per game through three games this season. Eden Jones and Monika McGee both have two goals scored this season. Jones scored the lone goal in UCO's loss at Dallas Baptist and another one in Central's win over Oklahoma Christian. McGee scored both her goals Thursday night against OC.

Kassidy Collins also has one goal this season, scoring the game-winning goal against Midwestern State in the 79th minute. Brooke Moore added one goal in Central's win over OC as well.

Kaitlyn Asher has played the most of any keeper for the Bronchos this season. The fifth-year senior has 10 saves in three matches, playing a combined 248 minutes. She picked up two wins and has two shutouts.

Oklahoma Baptist has yet to score in any of its first three games this season. OBU was taken down 3-0, 5-0, and 3-0 in its three matches with Central Missouri, Dallas Baptist, and West Texas A&M.

UCO will play one more home game on its four-game stand. The Bronchos host Northeastern State in the last non-conference match of the season. UCO will open MIAA play next Sunday at Newman.
