Bronchos Head To Regional Tourney

TOURNAMENT WEBSITE

Central Oklahoma will be looking to make it back to the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships when the No. 23-ranked Bronchos travel to St. Joseph, Mo. for the Central Regional Tournament.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament tees off Monday morning at the 5,921-yard, par-72 St. Joseph Country Club. Second-round action is Tuesday and the tournament wraps up Wednesday.

Nine teams make up the regional field, with the top three teams and top three individuals not on those teams advancing to the national tournament. The NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships are set for May 11-15 at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Mich.

Other teams in the regional field are No. 22 Arkansas Tech, No. 25 Central Missouri, Northeastern State, Rogers State, Henderson State, Southwestern Oklahoma, Harding and Augustana.

UCO is looking to earn its first national tournament berth since making the last of four straight appearances in 2015. The Bronchos have been in every regional since 2011, finishing sixth in 2019 before last year's event was canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Central is enjoying a sensational season, having placed in the top five in all eight tournaments with three wins. Included in those victories is a triumph in the Central Regional Preview March 29-30 at St. Joseph Country Club.

"We've had a really good year," 13th-year head coach Michael Bond said. "The girls have played well and we're looking forward to this week. It's going to be a tough tournament, but we're ready for the challenge."

Making up UCO's five-person squad will be senior Sydney Roberts, sophomore Madison O'Dell and freshmen Susana Olivares, Emily Miller and Emma Shelley.

Olivares is coming off an individual win in the MIAA Championships that helped the Bronchos capture that team title. She has a 76.9 scoring average for the season and has finished in the top 20 in all eight tournaments, including five top-10 showings.

Shelley showcases a 78.2 average and has been in the top 15 in six straight tournaments, including a 13th-place effort in the league meet. Roberts was seventh in the conference tournament for her fifth top-20 finish of the year and has a 78.6 average.

Miller has an 81.2 average with one top 20 and O'Dell is at 81.4 with two top-20 finishes.
