Central Oklahoma Opens Postseason Thursday

EMPORIA, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team opens postseason play Thursday when the Bronchos visit Emporia State in the opening round of the MIAA Spring Soccer Tournament.

Central and its MIAA counterparts played a modified spring season in lieu of its fall season being canceled in 2020. The league split into two divisions and the Bronchos (6-4-1 overall) finished second in the Southeast Division after going 3-2 over the five-game schedule. Emporia State went 9-0 this spring and 5-0 in the Northwest Division.

Kelsie Eason, Central's two-time All-American senior midfielder, leads the team with five goals scored this spring. She scored twice in a win over Rogers State last week that secured the second position in the tournament. She also scored once each against Southwestern, Newman, and Central Missouri.

Monika McGee, a sophomore midfielder, and Taryn Kedzior, a junior defender, both have four goals scored this season.

UCO has scored 20 goals in 11 games this season, an average of 1.8 per contest.

Kaitlyn Asher, a junior goalkeeper, has played the most minutes in the net this spring. She's made 23 saves this spring. Asher has played the full 90 minutes in each of the last three games and has made 14 saves.

Emporia State has scored 26 goals in nine games this spring, an average of 2.8 per contest.

Central and Emporia played back on March 13 in Edmond and ESU won 4-1.

The winner of Thursday's game will play the winner of Northeastern State vs. Missouri Western in the tournament final this Sunday. The two losing squads from each game will also play Sunday in the third-place match.
