Isabella Dunlap Named MIAA Tennis Athlete of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team picked up another MIAA Tennis Athlete of the Week award this week with Isabella Dunlap earning the honor for the Bronchos, the league announced Monday.

Central's All-American sophomore from Edmond went 4-0 last week, winning both of her singles matches and both of her doubles matches with teammate Adel-Byanu Abidullina.

Dunlap helped No. 4 Central Oklahoma to a perfect 2-0 week, winning a non-conference matchup at Oklahoma Baptist 7-0 before winning an MIAA matchup with rival Northeastern State 6-1.

Dunlap won 6-1, 6-3 at Oklahoma Baptist in singles competition after her and Abidullina picked up a 6-3 win in doubles play.

Against NSU, Dunlap won 7-5, 6-2 in singles action after a 7-6 (2) win in doubles play.

Dunlap, who is ranked 37th in the country in the latest ITA Top 50 Singles rankings, is now 10-3 on the season and has won five in a row. In doubles play, she and Abidullina are ranked fourth in the country and have also won five in a row. They are 12-2 overall this season.

This is fourth time in nine weeks that a Central Oklahoma tennis player has won the MIAA Tennis Athlete of the Week award. Abidullina earned the honor in Week 3 while Mae Canete (Week 6) and Blythe Buntrock (Week 7) also earned the honor.

Central Oklahoma is 15-1 overall this season and 7-0 in the MIAA. The Bronchos have won 13 straight and will go for a perfect 8-0 league record and their first regular season conference title Saturday when UCO hosts Missouri Western at 1 p.m.
