Bronchos Tripped In Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team lost Game 2 of its three-game series against Central Missouri 15-2 Saturday afternoon.

The Bronchos also lost 6-0 earlier Saturday and will try to get one back Sunday at 1 p.m. in Game 3.

Central Oklahoma starter Grant Larson was chased in the second inning after giving up six runs and UCO never recovered.

The Bronchos got both of their runs in the top of the third inning. Philip Scott doubled to left center and moved to third on a Kyle Crowl groundout before scoring on a Garrett Takamatsu single to short.

After Joe Mondragon singled and Takamatsu stood on third, the two executed a base-running maneuver that scored Takamatsu as Mondragon took the attention into a rundown between first and second.

That made it 6-2, but Central Missouri added one in the bottom half, two more in the fourth, and then another six-run inning in fifth to take command.

Central Oklahoma scattered five hits in Game 2 Saturday. Scott had the double and Takamatsu and Bennett Laurence each had singles. Mondragon was 2-for-3.

Larson threw 1 2/3 innings Saturday and allowed six runs on six hits and four walks. He struck out two batters.

Colton Croft relieved Larson and threw 2 1/3, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk. He also struck out two batters.

Hunter Freese threw 2/3 of an inning and allowed four runs on one hit and one walk. Ethan Wayland also allowed two runs in his 1/3 of an inning on the mound.

Zach Moore threw the bottom of the sixth and got a three-up, three-down inning.

Central Oklahoma is now 15-13 on the season and 10-10 in MIAA play. After Sunday's series finale, the Bronchos will be home again to take on Oklahoma Christian in a non-conference game at Wendell Simmons Field Tuesday at 6 p.m.
