UCO Downed In Game 1 With Northwest

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team lost the first game of the series against Northwest Missouri Saturday afternoon 12-8. Game 2 is scheduled for later Saturday evening.

Central jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a rally in the bottom of the second. Shane Nixon led off with a walk and moved to second when Chase Freeman was hit by a pitch. Nixon scored when Brendan Ezell reached on a fielder's choice and Northwest committed a throwing error going for an out at second base.

Ryan Harrel singled after that to load the bases before Philip Scott cleared the bases with one shot, sending a pitch down the left field line for a 3-RBI double.

Northwest answered two innings later with a three-run top of the fourth. Central got one back in the bottom half. Ezell scored on a wild pitch after doubling earlier in the inning.

Northwest though not only tied the game 5-5 in the top of the fifth, but put seven on the scoreboard in the inning to go up 10-5.

The deficit grew to 12-5 in the top of the eighth before Central answered with three more in the bottom half.
