UCO Blanks Blue Tigers In Opener

EDMOND (March 26) – Kylee Lynch tossed a two-hit shutout and Halley Randolph drove in three runs to spark Central Oklahoma to an 8-0 first-game battering of Lincoln Friday afternoon.

It was the fourth straight win for the No. 25-ranked Bronchos, including the third consecutive run-rule victory. UCO improved to 17-6 overall and 6-1 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

Lynch struck out five and didn't walk a batter in the five-inning contest while needing just 58 pitches to improve to 8-3. The left-hander gave up an infield single to the first batter she faced, then retired 14 straight before surrendering a two-out single in the fifth.

Randolph went 2-for-2 with three RBI to lead the offense, which finished with eight hits. Lexy Dobson also had two hits.

UCO manufactured its first two runs, getting one score in each of the second and third innings.

Dobson led off the second with a first-pitch double to the left-center field gap, went to third on a wild pitch and trotted home on Randolph's sacrifice fly.

Shayla Harper opened the third with a walk, reached second on a fielder's choice and took third on a passed ball before utilizing her speed to race home on Allie Eicher's routine groundout.

The Bronchos padded their lead in more conventional fashion in the fourth.

Randolph got things going with a one-out solo homer, this one a moon shot to straightaway center field. Brighton Gilbert followed with a walk and Harper pushed the lead to 5-0 with a two-out, two-run blast over the left field wall for her team-leading sixth homer of the season.

Central ended the game early with three more runs in the fifth.

Hazel Puempel opened the inning with a single to center field and Allie Eicher was hit by pitcher before Dobson drove a run-scoring single through the left side. Mikalya Rutland walked to load the bases, with Randolph bringing one run in on an infield single before an error gave UCO its eighth run.
