Rowing Returns To Water In Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of Central Oklahoma rowing team will make its long-awaited return to the water this weekend with the Bronchos competing against a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference foes in Western Washington and Seattle Pacific at SPU's 2021 Falcon Regatta on the L.W. Ship Canal.

"We're excited to finally get out there," UCO head rowing coach Brian Ebke said. "This team has been waiting for a very long time to get back in the boat and race and we're looking forward to this weekend to finally being able to do that. It'll be good to see where we stand, and it'll be good to get the season started."

Central Oklahoma hasn't competed in an official race since November 2019. UCO raced twice that fall but had its 2020 season cancelled just days before going to Seattle for the Falcon Regatta. The Bronchos haven't competed in sprint racing since winning their second consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship in June 2019.

Racing begins Saturday morning at 8 a.m. (Pacific Time). An Open Fours race will get the day started followed by Novice Fours at 8:15 a.m.

The Broncho Varsity Four boat, winner of the 2019 national title, will race at 8:30 a.m. and the Varsity Eights will follow at 8:45 a.m.

After a short break, a Second Varsity Eights race will take place at 10:30 a.m. The V4+ and V8+ boats will also race again at 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. to wrap up the day of racing.

All races are 2,000 meters.
