Emma Shelley Named MIAA Golfer of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced Wednesday Emma Shelley is its Women's Golf Athlete of the Week following the University of Central Oklahoma freshman's victory in the 2021 Diffee Ford Lincoln Invite earlier this week.

Shelley, a second year Broncho who remained a freshman following the cancellation of last year's golf season, earned her first career victory Tuesday in Edmond. The Bartlesville, Oklahoma native finished the 36-hole event at KickingBird Golf Club with a three-shot lead.

She posted a 145 after two trips around KickingBird. Shelley shot a 75 Monday in the first round and was tied for seventh. She then fired an even-par 70 Tuesday to claim top individual honors in the tournament. Shelley tapped in a tournament-high nine birdies.

The individual title also helped Central win the team title. The Bronchos posted a 36-hole 610 to claim top honors. UCO has finished second, fifth, and first in three tournaments this season.

Shelley will lead her squad back into action next week at the Midwestern State Invitational at Wichita Falls Country Club in Texas.
