KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced Tuesday that University of Central Oklahoma freshman Linsey Gordon is this week's MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

Gordon, a second-year freshman from Sapulpa, Oklahoma, had a standout week leading Central to a pair of road wins at Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney that extended the Bronchos' unbeaten streak to six games.

UCO beat Hays 2-1 Friday before shutting out Kearney 3-0 on Sunday. The UNK match was the fifth shutout of the season for the Bronchos.

Thanks to Gordon's leadership at center back, Hays only took nine total shots in the game. Against Kearney, Gordon and Co. stifled the Lopers all day, allowing only one single shot from the opposition in 90 minutes.

Gordon arrived at Central last fall but had her initial freshman season canceled. She did help the Bronchos to an MIAA spring season championship – albeit unofficial. Gordon has played and started in all 10 games during this her second freshman season. She's also played the full 90 in eight games, 110 minutes in one other, and 84 minutes in the only game she didn't go the distance.

UCO allows only 1.10 goals per game on a measly 7.4 shots per game this season. The Bronchos are back in action this weekend at home. UCO hosts Missouri Southern on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. before welcoming Central Missouri to Edmond on Sunday afternoon.
