Where Are They Now: Jessi Mathieu

Jessi (Mathieu) Wilson joined Central Oklahoma's new soccer program in 1998 and was a driving force in turning the Bronchos into an immediate national power. The feisty midfielder played a key role in facilitating UCO's high-powered offensive attack while also displaying superb defensive instincts.

Jessi played in 83 games with 81 starts during her stellar career from 1998-01, with the Bronchos going 60-23-1 in that span – amazing success for a brand new program. She ranks fifth on the school's all-time assists list with 24 and was twice a first-team All-Lone Star Conference selection (2000 and '01).

Jessi had eight assists and three goals as a junior in 2000 when Central enjoyed one of its best-ever seasons. The Bronchos won the first of their six Lone Star Conference championships, added the LSC Tournament title and beat Colorado Mesa in the first round of the NCAA Division II national tournament before losing to eventual champion UC San Diego in the quarterfinals to finish 21-3. That stood as the record for wins until the 2018 club went 22-2.

In the third installment of our look back at some of UCO's past athletic greats, here's a brief conversation with Jessi (Mathieu) Wilson.

What degree did you get from UCO: Business.

How did UCO prepare you for success: UCO helped teach me how to manage my time and build relationships with people.

Favorite memory at Central: My favorite memory is going to the NCAA tournament and finishing sixth in the nation in 2000. We had a great team and it was such a fun year!

Best thing about going to UCO:  I think the best thing was the friendly people and all the lifelong friends I made. Some of my best friends are the ones I met in college. We still get together and relive all the great memories. Also, playing soccer in college was pretty cool!

Who were your favorite professors, coaches, etc: Mike Cook was a great soccer coach and I learned a lot from him! And Mike Kirk was such a fun sports information director! I love that they both had a positive impact on my college experience.

If you could give advice to a current student, what would it be: Have fun and enjoy your experience! Make time for school AND having fun ... you can do both. And to my favorite freshman cheerleader, good luck and have fun Raegan Foster!!

Career path: I am currently a financial analyst for an oil & gas company. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do when I got out of college, but have been fortunate to land a good job.

Where do you currently live:  Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Family:  I am married to my lucky (juuuust kidding) and handsome husband, Brian. We have a French bulldog named Hank.
