Philip Scott Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

EDMOND – Philip Scott was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team Thursday, earning the postseason academic honor that moves the University of Central Oklahoma senior baseball player to the All-American ballot.

Scott, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, received his bachelor's degree in finance this spring. He carried a 3.87 grade point average and excels on the field of play for the Bronchos with the same success.

A two-year member of the UCO baseball team, Scott played in and started every game, 76, for the Bronchos over the past two seasons – with the 2020 season of course cut short due to the global health crisis. Scott has a career batting average of .305, scattering 91 hits in 76 games for Central Oklahoma.

He led the team to the NCAA tournament last season as a junior, with the Bronchos making an appearance in both the MIAA championship game and the Central Regional final. The third baseman also helped the Bronchos to an NCAA record .985 fielding percentage in 2018.

Scott was the only baseball player in the MIAA named to the All-District team, which is comprised of selections from the MIAA, the Great American Conference and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The CoSIDA Academic All-American program is an annual postseason awards program honoring the best student-athletes in the country that excel both on and off the field of play. A minimum 3.30 GPA is required for nomination, though the average for UCO's district is 3.71. Sports Information Directors from around the country nominate and vote on the award. Scott moves on to the All-American ballot, which will be announced in June.
