Bronchos Set For SNU Tourney

The Central Oklahoma women's golf team resumes the spring season at a familiar course Monday and Tuesday when the Bronchos participate in the Diffee Ford Lincoln Classic at KickingBird Golf Course in Edmond.

Southern Nazarene is hosting the two-day, 16-team tournament, with 18 holes on tap each day at the 5,768-yard, par-70 course.

Joining No. 22-ranked UCO and SNU will be No. 15 Arkansas Tech, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma City, Redlands CC, Southwestern Oklahoma, Oklahoma Baptist, Northeastern State, Northwestern Oklahoma, Rogers State, Newman, Northwest Missouri, Southern Arkansas, Fort Hays State and Southwest Baptist.

"There's a lot of good teams in the field and it should be a great tournament," head coach Michael Bond said. "Obviously we get to play the course quite a bit, so hopefully that will work to our advantage."

Making up Central's five-player contingent will be senior Sydney Roberts, sophomores Madison O'Dell and Faith Stewart and freshmen Susana Olivares and Emma Shelley.

Olivares has been the team ringleader all season, having placed in the top 10 in all six tournaments during the fall and spring. She's won two titles, carries a sensational 72.75 scoring average and is coming off a fourth-place showing in UCO's last tournament two weeks ago at the St. Edward's Invitational.

Shelley finished a career-low third at St. Edward's with a 144 total for her second top-10 of the year. She has a 77.8 average in six events.

O'Dell owns three top-20 finishes and has a 76.83 average, while Roberts is at 77.6 and Stewart 79.4. Roberts has two top-10s this year and is returning to the lineup after missing the St. Edward's tourney with illness.

The Bronchos came in fourth at St. Edward's for their fifth top-four finish in six tournaments.
