Bronchos Finish 9th Final Softball Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 5) – A sensational season ended with Central Oklahoma ranked ninth in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II poll that was released Wednesday.

The eight qualifiers for the Division II World Series earned the top eight spots, followed by the Bronchos. National champion Augustana – the team that eliminated UCO in the Central Super Regional – topped the rankings, followed by runner-up Texas A&M-Kingsville and Grand Valley State.

Central received 272 points in balloting of 16 head coaches from around the country. Click here for the final poll.

"We had a great season and I'm really proud of everything we accomplished," head coach Cody White said. "We didn't reach our final goal, but this team put everything on the line every time they stepped on the field. It was a special group."

The Bronchos captured the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association regular season and tournament titles, then took the Central Region I championship before falling to Augie in the Central Super Regional.

UCO finished 48-8, tied for the second-most wins in program history, and that .857 winning percentage was the best in the nation. The Bronchos also ended up ranked third in doubles per game (2.07), fifth in on-base percentage (.438), seventh in average (.347) and seventh in scoring (7.14 runs/game).

Individually, senior star and first-team All-American JoBi Heath finished as the national leader in both doubles (24) and runs batted in (77). Hazel Puempel ranked sixth in walks (45), while Division II Freshman of the Year Bailey McKittrick was 10th in pitching wins (26) and Bailey Thompson was 10th in triples (seven).
