Bronchos To Host Festival

Central Oklahoma makes its home debut this weekend when the Bronchos host the Raising Cane's Softball Festival, which has been moved back a day because of expected inclement weather.

The event was originally scheduled to start Friday and conclude Sunday, but will now run Saturday-Monday.

UCO, which went 4-1 in last weekend's season-opening Arkansas Tech Winter Festival, will play twice Saturday, once Sunday and twice again Monday.

The Bronchos open the festival against Southern Nazarene (2-2) at 11 a.m. Saturday before taking on Cameron (4-2) at 1 p.m. UCO plays Texas Woman's (1-3) at 4 p.m. Sunday before finishing Monday with Southeastern Oklahoma (1-5) at 12 p.m. and East Central (0-1) at 2 p.m.

"We're looking forward to playing on our own field," head coach Cody White said. "I thought we did a lot of good things last weekend and the girls really competed. We've obviously got a lot of things we need to improve on, but I'm happy with the progress we've already made."

Central hit .323 as a team last week, averaging 8.6 hits and 6.4 runs a game despite getting shutout in its lone loss. Four players are hitting at least .438 for the Bronchos.

Sophomore Lexy Dobson leads the way with a .538 average and seven runs batted int. Senior Bailey Thompson is hitting .533 with eight runs scored, while senior JoBi Heath is at .467 with the team's lone home run and five RBI and senior Carli Jones .438.

Heath moved up to sixth place in both career runs (126) and hits (207) at UCO last weekend. She's also in the top 10 in four other categories – doubles (third, 47), RBI (fourth, 154), homers (fifth, 29) and at bats (eighth, 585).

The Bronchos had a 3.61 team earned run average last week as five pitchers saw action.

Sophomore Lauren Gibson leads the way with a 1-0 record and 2.10 ERA, while freshman Bailey McKittrick is 2-0 with a 4.08 ERA.
