UCO Hosts Southwestern Christian Tuesday

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team returns to the court Tuesday when the Bronchos host Southwestern Christian at 7:30 p.m. at Hamilton Field House.
 
Central Oklahoma is 2-4 on the season and coming off a win last Wednesday against Midwestern State. UCO played its first home game of the season and came out victorious with a 73-72 win over MSU. Southwestern Christian is 5-2 on the season.
 
UCO is averaging 63.3 points per game as a team this season, with the Bronchos shooting 42.3 percent as a team. Central is hitting 27.6 percent of its 3-pointers, making four per game, and 69.4 percent of its free-throws, making 14 per game from the line. The Bronchos also average 32.8 rebounds per game, and 6.5 steals per game while forcing 15.2 turnovers per outing.
 
Dashawn McDowell's 12.3 points per game average leading the way individually. McDowell has made a team-high 27 field goals and is shooting 54 percent from the floor. He also has a team-high 19 made free-throws. McDowell is third on the team with a 4.3 rebounds per game average and leads the team with nine steals.
 
Justin Nimmer, a redshirt freshman, is second on the team with a 9.8 points per game average. He is also second with his 5.5 rebounds per game mark and his five blocked shots leads the team. Nimmer is shooting 42.6 percent from the floor, making 23 of 54 attempts in six games this season. His five made 3-pointers is a team high.
 
Camryn Givens is just under the double-digit scoring average mark, scoring 8.7 points per game. He is the team's leading rebounder at 5.7 boards per game. Givens has also made a team-high five 3-pointers and joins McDowell with a team-high nine steals. His 11 made free-throws is third on the Bronchos.
 
SCU is averaging 86.4 points per game as a team and makes 48 percent of its shots from the floor. The Eagles make 8.3 threes per game. Derek Dantzler-Fulner is averaging a team-high 16.9 points per game and also leads the team with 9.3 rebounds per game. Ron Washington (14.2), Darius Madkin (12.9), Khristien White (12.6), and Terrance Reese (11.4) round out the scoring leaders for Southwestern Christian.
 
UCO is 5-0 all-time against Southwestern Christian and beat them 85-57 last season at Hamilton Field House. The Bronchos will get back on the road following Tuesday night's matchup. UCO plays at Cameron this Saturday in a non-conference game before playing its first MIAA contests of the season next weekend at Rogers State and at Northeastern State.
