Central Travels To Rogers Thursday Night

Bronchos Play MIAA Game In Claremore

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Central Oklahoma continues a five-game road trip Thursday with an MIAA matchup at Rogers State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from the Claremore Expo Center.
 
The Bronchos are 7-4 this season and 1-1 in the MIAA. Rogers State is 4-4 overall and is 0-2 in league play. Both teams played road games at Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern last weekend to open conference play. The Bronchos beat MSSU on Saturday after a loss at Pitt, while RSU lost to both schools.
 
UCO enters this week's only game averaging 73.6 points per game. The Bronchos shoot 47.4 percent from the floor and 30.3 percent from behind the 3-point line making on average 4.5 3-pointers per game. UCO also shoots 69.7 percent from the free-throw line and averages 12.5 made free-throws per game. The Bronchos outrebound opponents 36.0 – 31.7 on average.
 
Rogers State averages 75.5 points per game through eight contests this season. The Hillcats shoot 47.3 percent as a team, 29.1 percent from behind the 3-point line, and 69.4 percent from the free-throw line. Andrew Mason leads RSU in scoring at 13.3 points per game and Tim Jordan Jr. joins him in double figures at 11.6 points per game.
 
Josh Nwankwo and Matthew Willenborg lead the Bronchos into this week's matchup. Nwankwo leads the team with 19.4 points per game and Willenborg is averaging 17.4 points per game. Willenborg leads country in field goals made (78) and is fifth in the country in rebounds (93) while also ranking third nationally in total blocked shots (27). Nwankwo ranks third nationally in field goals made (77) and is second in attempts (161). He is fifth in total points scored (213).
 
Nwankwo is second on UCO in rebounding behind Willenborg at 6.0 rebounds per game. He also adds 3.9 assists per game, most on the team, and 2.3 steals per game, also most on the team.
 
Marcus Zeigler Jr. adds 8.9 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, and 3.4 assists per game. Parker Hannah (4.7), Ben Averitt (4.4) add to the scoring load for the Bronchos.
 
Central Oklahoma and Rogers State have only played 15 times and 12 of those have come since RSU joined the MIAA before the 2019-20 season. Rogers has an 8-7 advantage in the series. The teams split last season with the road team winning both games.
 
Central Oklahoma will continue its road swing in San Antonio, Texas next week with the River City Holiday Classic. The Bronchos play No. 7 St. Mary's on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and No. 14 St. Edward's on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
