Bronchos Visit MSSU Friday

JOPLIN, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team travels to Joplin to take on Missouri Southern Friday at 6 p.m. in the final non-conference game of the 2018 season.

The Bronchos are 6-0 on the season eager to take on the Lions.

"We've been fortunate to get things going in the right direction this season," 21st-year head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We know we still have to improve on some things and we need to work to make sure we're consistent in some other things. We're eager to get out there and try to keep it going."

UCO is looking to add another win and stay undefeated. Katie Killion leads the Bronchos with six goals and has a team-high 28 shots. The senior recorded her second career hat trick last week against Southwest Baptist. She scored four goals on the week.

Morgan Cherry has three goals and Asha Haile two. Piper Cannon, Kelsie Eason, Taryn Kedzior and Camrie Hurst all have scored once. Eason leads the Bronchos with three assists on the season too.

Kelsi Gibson, a true freshman goalkeeper from Houston, Texas, has benefitted from a tough and stingy defense in front of her. The Bronchos have only allowed 32 shots this season and just 17 on goal. Gibson has 13 saves – or all of the shots she has faced – in 450 minutes in the net.

Missouri Southern is 4-1-1 on their season. It has been a balanced attack from three players so far for the Lions. Bailey Belcher, Alex McCord, and Sarah Tatum all have a pair of goals under their belt.

The loss MSSU has on the season was against Northeastern State, whom the Bronchos beat 1-0 the past weekend.

The Bronchos move from Joplin, Mo. to Bolivar, Mo. for Sunday's game against Southwest Baptist for the first MIAA conference matchup of the season.
