Jessica Le wins ITA Summer Circuit Event

ARLINGTON, Texas – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team learned of good news from one of its incoming freshman this week when Jessica Le won an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Circuit tournament at the University of Texas at Arlington on Monday.

Le went 5-0 in the tournament that ran from Saturday to Monday. She toppled competition from fellow incoming college freshman, to high-school aged foes, and older opponents too. Le won each of her first three matches in straight sets before finally dropping a set in the semifinals. She responded with a second-set win and won in a third-set tiebreaker.

Le defeated top-rated Rachel Sam of Texas in the finals. She won the first set 6-4 before taking the decisive second set 6-3.

The ITA Summer Circuit is a series of tournaments designed to give college athletes the opportunity to compete year-round. The tournaments are "open" tournaments to fall in line with NCAA compliance guidelines. The circuit is made up of 49 events over six weeks in June and July.

Le graduated from Bishop McGuinness High School in Oklahoma City this past spring and will join the Broncho tennis team this fall. She finished second in the Class 5A singles state championship match as a senior.

The UCO tennis team soared to new heights in 2017-18, with the Bronchos reaching an all-time high national ranking of eighth in the country, winning 20 matches for just the second time in program history, and making the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II national championships, the furthest any Broncho team has ever made it in the postseason.
