No. 8 Bronchos Wrap Up Regular Season

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a bang Saturday, beating Angelo State 5-0 at the Oak Tree Tennis Center. Central, ranked eighth in the country, finished the regular season 16-2 after winning its fifth-straight match Saturday afternoon.

"We wanted to finish strong," UCO head tennis coach Jaron Maestas. "But are goal all along has been to make some noise in the postseason and now it's time for that. It was good to finish like this today in front of our fans one more time, but we're ready to get the postseason started next week."

Central Saturday used a dominant doubles performance to jump out to a 3-0 lead in route to the sweeping win.

Kirtana Bhat and Laetitia Charbonnet, ranked 27th in the country, won 8-3 at the top spot in the lineup. Alli Hodges and Paola Landin won 8-6 at No. 2 and Alix Williams and Sarah Van Eeckhoudt won 8-3 at No. 3 to give the Bronchos a 3-0 at the break. It was the eighth time this season the Bronchos have swept doubles play.

Van Eeckhoudt won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 in singles competition, while Williams won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 to give the Bronchos the match.

Central did not finish its other four singles matches as the Bronchos have a quick turnaround to its conference tournament. UCO is the No. 2 seed in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association postseason tournament. The Bronchos will play seventh-seeded Lindenwood Monday at 8 a.m. at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
