No. 17 UCO Crushes Arkansas Tech

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma women's tennis team won its second straight match Sunday afternoon with an 8-1 win over Arkansas Tech in a non-conference affair at Broncho Courts.

The 17th-ranked Bronchos won all three doubles points Sunday, and won in straight sets in five of the six singles matches.

"We played very well today," UCO head tennis coach Jaron Maestas said. "I keep telling these girls that they have the potential to be one of the best teams in the country and I think they're starting to play to that level. We are playing very well in both doubles and singles matches. Now it becomes about being consistent at what we're doing."

Central Oklahoma has won three of its last four by a combined score of 25-2. The only loss this season for the Bronchos came at the hands of NCAA Division I side Eastern Michigan and that match was 4-3.

Sunday, UCO got a boost with a sweep of doubles for the second time this season. Kirtana Bhat and Laetitia Charbonnet won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, as did Alli Hodges and Paola Landin at No. 2, where they picked up a big regional win. Alix Williams and Sarah Van Eeckhoudt cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Hodges won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Charbonnet made quick work of her opponent at No. 2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1.

Landin allowed the only point in the match at No. 3 singles, falling 7-5, 6-1.

Bhat won 6-2, 7-6 (6-4), Van Eeckhoudt won 6-3, 6-1, and Williams won 6-0, 6-2.

Central Oklahoma is in the middle of a nine-game homestand. The Bronchos return to the court Tuesday, Feb. 27 to take on Cameron in a match being made up following last week's winter weather storm. UCO still has five more home games left before the Bronchos hit the road again.
