No. 17 UCO Whips Dallas Baptist

EDMOND – The 17th-ranked University of Central Oklahoma tennis team whipped Dallas Baptist 8-1 in a non-conference match at the Oak Tree Tennis Center Friday night.

After winning two of the three doubles points, Central cruised through singles play, winning at every spot in the lineup to improve to 3-1 on the season.

"That was a good win for us," UCO head tennis coach Jaron Maestas said. "We fought hard in every match. After a tough week of missing some practice time and postponing a game and having to move this match indoors, it's good to get on the court and get back to playing tennis."

Alli Hodges and Paola Landin took No. 2 doubles 8-1, and Alix Williams and Sarah Van Eeckhoudt won at No. 3 doubles 8-5, to give UCO a 2-1 lead at the break.

Hodges cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Laetitia Charbonnet won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0

Landin was the only Broncho tested in singles play. The freshman dropped a tough first set 7-6 (7-5) before coming back with a big 6-2 win to force a third-set tiebreaker. Landin won 10-6 to keep the Bronchos run through singles going.

Kirtana Bhat won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, as did Van Eeckhoudt at No. 5. Williams won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

Central is back in action Sunday with another non-conference matchup. UCO will take on Arkansas Tech Sunday afternoon back at Broncho Courts.
