No. 13 Bronchos Host Cameron

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team Wednesday is hosting Cameron in a non-conference dual at the Oak Tree Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Central Oklahoma, ranked No. 13 in the nation, is 1-2 on the season and looking to rebound from Sunday's loss against NCAA Division I opponent Eastern Michigan. Cameron is 1-0 on the season with a win over Southern Nazarene earlier this week.

"We're anxious to get back on the court," UCO head tennis coach Jaron Maestas said. "We played pretty well against a tough DI team on Sunday and almost got the win. If we play that way Wednesday, we'll be in good shape."

UCO has been solid in doubles action in the early part of the season. The Bronchos won all three doubles points in their match against SNU last week, and won the doubles point against Eastern Michigan (Division I rules) after winning two of the three matches.

Kirtana Bhat and Laetitia Charbonnet head up the charge in doubles action. The duo is 8-3 on the year, 2-1 in duals. Alli Hodges and Paola Landin are 5-4 overall in doubles play, and also are 2-1 in dual matches. Alix Williams and Sarah Van Eeckhoudt are also 2-1 in dual matches and have a team-best 8-2 overall mark this year.

Hogdes has the team-high in singles' wins with 11. She went 9-4 in tournaments this past fall, and is 2-1 in duals this semester. Bhat, Charbonnet, Landin, and Van Eeckhoudt are each also 2-1 over the past two weeks in singles competition.

Cameron is led by Zhenia Shviadok. The senior No. 1 is 1-0 on the season after a three-set win against Southern Nazarene on Monday. Shviadok is ranked 34th nationally, and third in the South Central Region.

Sarah Frendo, who lost in three sets at SNU, is ranked seventh regionally. Frendo and Mathilde Thibaudat are ranked 23rd in the country in doubles.

UCO is looking to avenge a loss to Cameron last season in Lawton. The Bronchos will remain at home as a nine-game homestand rolls on this weekend against Dallas Baptist (Friday) and Arkansas Tech (Sunday).
