UCO Heads To Missouri For Two Matches

No. 15-ranked Central Oklahoma looks to extend a six-match winning streak this weekend when the Bronchos head to Missouri for a pair of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association matches.

UCO, 22-4 on the season and tied for third in the conference standings at 10-2, travels to Bolivar, Mo. Friday for a 5 p.m. contest against Southwest Baptist (4-21, 0-12) before moving on to Joplin, Mo. Saturday to take on Missouri Southern (3-19, 3-9) at noon.

It's the second-to-last road trip of the regular season for the Bronchos.

ABOUT THE BRONCHOS:  UCO stretched its league winning streak to six in a row Tuesday, completing a three-match homestand with a sweep of Pittsburg State.  It was the 17th sweep of the season for the Bronchos, who are 10-1 with nine sweeps at home this year.

Six players have at least 30 kills in the six-match winning streak, with Taylor Bevis' 86 leading the way.  Malia Kaaiohelo has hit .426 with 53 kills and just 10 errors in 101 attacks while adding 23 total blocks in that stretch.

Bevis ranks third in the conference in kills per set with 3.73, having collected 339 on the season.  She's also second on the team in digs with 269 (2.96/set).

Five other players have 100-plus kills, including four with at least 150 – Haley Deschenes (198), Kaaiohelo (169), Karyn Chrisman (168) and Jordan Spence (157).  Spence (.307) and Kaaiohelo (.305) are both hitting over .300 for the season.

Dominique Lipari is second in the MIAA and 12th in NCAA Division II in total digs with 495, averaging 5.32 per set.  She's had 10 matches with at least 20 digs, including four with 30-plus.

Spence tops the Bronchos in blocks with 84, ranking seventh in the league with 0.97 per set.  Kaaiohelo averages 0.82 blocks a set, having piled up 75 total.

Ericka Scholl and McKenzie Fyfe continue to share setting duties and combine to average 10.73 assists per set.  Scholl has 501 (5.89/set) and Fyfe has 431 (4.84/set), with Scholl also ranking second in the conference in aces with 34.

RECORD WATCH:  Bevis ranks fourth on the school's career kills list with 1,679 and will be looking to move up to third this weekend, needing just 23 to make that jump.  She's also fourth in all-time attacks with 4,579.

Lipari has leaped all the way into fifth place in career digs at UCO with 1,519 and the junior needs 63 more for fourth.

Spence remains fifth on the school list for career assisted blocks with 357, needing only 10 more for fourth.  She's seventh in solo blocks with 67 and is just two away from sixth on that list.

Fyfe ranks 10th in career assists with 1,626.

ABOUT SBU:  The Bearcats have lost 13 straight matches and are still looking for their first conference win.  The Bronchos have beaten SBU twice already this season, earning a sweep in the first match of the season at the Tarleton State Invitational and again on Sept. 14 in a home MIAA meeting.

Greyson Roster leads the Bearcats with 190 kills (2.16/set) and 71 blocks (0.81/set), while Delanie Tipton has 156 kills (1.81/set) and 81 blocks (0.94/set).

UCO owns a dominating 18-2 advantage in the series and has won the last 10 meetings between the two.

ABOUT MSSU:  The Lions ended a seven-match losing streak with a five-set win over SBU Tuesday and host Pittsburg State Friday night before taking on the Bronchos.

Janelle Brehm (215 kills, 220 digs), Shaylon Sharp (136 kills) and Alicia Picket (112 kills, 61 blocks) pace MSSU.

UCO swept the Lions in this year's first meeting back on Sept. 15 and have a 19-7 lead in the series.

UP NEXT:  The Bronchos return to Edmond for their final two home matches of the regular season next week, hosting No. 2-ranked and defending MIAA champion Nebraska-Kearney for Oct. 26 before playing Fort Hays State the next day.
