OKLAHOMA CITY – Central Oklahoma built a big lead, then had to fend off a big comeback, before beating Oklahoma Christian 12-8 Wednesday at Dobson Field.

The Bronchos (10-2) scored runs in all but the first inning, were up 4-0 before OC ever crossed the plate, and had a 10-2 lead in the seventh. Then Oklahoma Christian scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to keep the game interesting, and closed the gap to 11-8 in the eighth before the Bronchos finally shut it down.

"That game had a lot of different things happening," UCO head coach John Martin said. "I was really glad to see how well we hit the ball and moved around the bases. I wish we could've finished them off a little earlier, but we got the win so that's good."

Jaycee Parker earned the win on the mound for the Bronchos, improving to 2-0 on the season. Parker threw five innings, allowed four hits and two runs, and recorded one strikeout.

The senior righty showed tough resolve too, after walking two batters in the first inning.

UCO's bats came up big again, and it was the usual suspects for the Bronchos. Leadoff hitter and right fielder Jake Dyer had a huge game at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Caleb Peters and Jon Kamies also kept up the pace, as both of them went 3-for-4. Peters scored three runs on the day and Kamies had three RBIs.

Anthony Alvarez was the fourth Broncho with three hits Wednesday. The third baseman went 3 of 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Cole Sanderson and Justin Brown each collected two hits, one RBI, and one run scored.

Ben Wusterbarth was first to relieve Parker. Wusterbarth threw 1 1/3 allowing three runs on three hits. He did strikeout two. Connor Sweeney came in, threw one inning, and allowed three runs on five hits.

Greg Hyde closed the game for the Bronchos, throwing 1 2/3 innings. He halted the late OC run, struck out two batters, and got the Bronchos their 10th win on the season.

UCO is back home next. The Bronchos return to MIAA action with a three-game series against Fort Hays State beginning Friday. First pitch is at 2 p.m. The second game is Saturday at 2 p.m., and the series wraps up Sunday at noon.
