BOLIVAR, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team lost 5-4 to Southwest Baptist in the final game of a three-game Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association series Sunday.

Southwest Baptist's Blake Hobbs scored on a Gibson Russ wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth to score the winning run. UCO led 4-1 heading into the final inning.

Clint Jack walked to lead off the ninth for Southwest Baptist. After Russ struck out Cody Massey, Caleb Sneed drew another walk. Colton Vaught came on to run for Sneed, then the pitcher, Chance Wolfe, slapped a single to center field to load the bases.

Hobbs came up to bat, and he would reach on a fielder's choice after an error by Kyle Miskovsky allowed the runners to advance. Jack scored to make it 4-2.

The next batter, Jovany Urbieta, singled to right field to score Vaught and Wolfe.

Russ got Sean Murley to pop out for the second out of the inning, but then walked Hunter Hiskey on a four-pitch at bat. Nelson Muniz – the ninth batter of the inning – was at the plate next when Russ' pitch got away and Hobbs scored the winning run.

"That's a tough way to end the weekend," UCO head coach John Martin said. "We played two really good games up here, and we didn't play bad today, but that's a tough way to finish."

The Bronchos (9-2) took the first two games and scored a combined 28 runs. After a 30-minute delay to start the game following rain in the area, the Broncho bats couldn't quite get the same output Sunday.

Seven different Bronchos recorded a hit, but only three recorded two and none of those got any more. Brent Washausen, Caleb Peters, and T.J. Sparr each had two hits.

Peters led the charge on offense with an RBI and one run scored. Justin Brown's two-RBIs were a team-high Sunday. Brown went 1 of 4 on the day at the plate and also scored a run.

J.D. Cameron got the start for the Bronchos Sunday and had a strong outing. Cameron threw 5 1/3 innings, and did not allow an earned run on three hits. He also struck out two.

Greg Hyde came on in relief of Cameron in the sixth when Southwest Baptist had the bases loaded. Hyde got out of that jam and finished with 1 2/3 innings pitched. He also had two strikeouts.

Shawn Troutman threw 1/3 of an inning, getting one strikeout in the eighth.

The Gibson Russ came on to close for the Bronchos. He got out of eighth unscathed before Southwest Baptist's ninth-inning comeback. Russ finished with 1 1/3 innings, four runs allowed, two of them unearned. He walked three, allowed two hits and recorded one strikeout.

UCO makes a short trip down the road to Oklahoma City to take on Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Bronchos return home for another three-game conference series next weekend. UCO hosts Fort Hays State beginning Friday.
