ADA, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma swept a doubleheader against East Central Saturday afternoon. The Bronchos (5-1) won 12-5 in the first game, and 7-2 in the second.

"Today was a good day all around," UCO head coach John Martin said. "For us to get solid performances from a number of different pitchers, then to have our guys do well at the plate, that's a good day."

Holden Capps got the start for the Bronchos in the first game and wasted no time getting to work Saturday. Capps struck out the side in the bottom of the first in what would be a display of dominance for the senior lefty from Lawton.

Capps (2-0) got the win after throwing six innings, striking out five, and allowing three runs on seven hits. Capps walked just one East Central batter Saturday.

Capps had plenty of run support too.

In the top of the second, the Broncho offense got to work, scoring three runs on two hits. Korey Floyd led off the inning getting on base after an error by the shortstop. Brent Washausen then drew a walk before Dayne Sommer singled to left to score Floyd.

Washausen moved over to third and Sommer advanced to second to second on a second East Central error. Then T.J. Sparr hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Washausen.

Jake Dyer came up next and smacked an RBI double to center to score Sommer before East Central could get out of the inning. The Bronchos led 3-0 at that point and scored a run in each of the next six innings on their way to the win.

Dyer and Floyd's work with the bat propelled UCO Saturday. Dyer, a junior outfielder who got the start in center, went 4 of 5 with a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Floyd was 3 of 5 with two solo home runs and a four runs scored.

Jon Kamies also hit a home run for the Bronchos in the Saturday's first game. The All-American was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

SECOND GAME

UCO's offense in the second game of the day again got to right to work.

Dyer walked to leadoff the game, and after Justin Brown flied out, Kamies then singled through the left side to advance Dyer to third. Kamies moved up to second on a wild pitch and suddenly, with just one out, the Bronchos had two runners in scoring position.

Up next, Glen Reeves stepped up to the plate and smacked a shot down the right side to score both Dyer and Kamies.
UCO led 3-0 after scoring again in the top of the fourth, then East Central put its only two runs on the board in the bottom of that inning.

In the fifth, UCO put it away.

Brown led off the inning with a single, then Kamies doubled down the left field line. Brown scored and Kamies moved over to third after a throw.

Reeves drew a walk, then Floyd popped out. But the Bronchos weren't done yet.

Trae Smith singled to right field to score Kamies. Then Anthony Alvarez laid down a sac-bunt to score Reeves. Cole Sanderson was up next and he singled up the middle to score Smith. After a pitching change, East Central got out of the inning. UCO was up 7-2 at that point and needed only to close it out.

J.D. Cameron got the win for the Bronchos in the second game. He threw four innings, allowed five hits and two runs – both unearned. Cameron also struck out four.

Ben Wusterbarth came on in relief in the fifth and struck out four himself over two innings of work. Gaylon Viney threw one inning to finish off East Central.

UCO and East Central will wrap up a three-game series in Edmond Sunday. The game is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch at Wendell Simmons Field.
