Bronchos bounce back with win over Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The University of Central Oklahoma beat Lindenwood 3-1 on Saturday in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association match.

The Bronchos (14-1, 1-1) lost their first game of the year on Friday and bounced back with a purpose against Lindenwood on Saturday.

UCO came out in the first set a little slow, but edged ahead and found a win despite seven errors in the match. There were five ties and two lead changes in the set, but the Bronchos came up with the 25-20 win to go up 1-0.

Lindenwood responded by winning the second set 25-20. This set had eight ties and four lead changes.

The Bronchos really put it on Lindenwood in the third set, hiiting .220. It was also the closest set of the match, with eight ties, but there was only one lead change and the Bronchos ended with a 25-22 win.

The final set was the Bronchos best of the day. They hit a match-best .325, there was only one tie and one lead change, and UCO rolled to a 25-16 win to take the match.

The Bronchos were led by Taylor Bevis' 26 kills, a season-high for the sophomore. Ijeoma Njenje added seven kills and Fulani Petties and Jordan Spence each had five.

Katy Davis led the Bronchos with 43 assists. UCO had 12 blocks in the match. Spence, Bevis and Njenje each had one solo block.

UCO returns home for a pair of conference matches next week. The Bronchos host Missouri Western on Friday at 7 p.m. and Northwest Missouri on Saturday at 4 p.m.
