UCO falls to Central Missouri in season's first loss

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The University of Central Oklahoma lost 3-0 to Central Missouri on Friday night in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association competition.

The Bronchos (13-1, 0-1) are ranked No. 7 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Central Missouri (11-2, 1-0) is ranked No. 10.

Home court provided the Jennies with a boost to jump out to an early lead in the first set and Central Missouri was on cruise control as it won 25-17. Central Missouri opened the second set in similar fashion, and again cruised to a win, 25-16.

The Bronchos put up a fight in the third set, and led for a good portion of the set. But as the teams traded ties and lead changes, Central Missouri once again overpowered the Bronchos and finished off the victory with a 25-23 triumph in the final frame.

UCO committed a season-high 20 errors in the match. Ijeoma Njenje led the Bronchos with eight kills. Fulani Petties added five and Jordan Spence added four. Spence also led the Bronchos in blocks with three.

Katy Davis led UCO with 21 assists. Taylor Bevis, the leading attacker for the Bronchos this season, led the team with 12 digs. Bevis had only four kills in the match and had five errors.

The Bronchos will have a quick turnaround to recover. UCO is due in St. Charles, Mo. at 2 p.m. Saturday for conference clash with Lindenwood.
