EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma women's soccer team travels to Joplin, Mo. on Thursday to take on Missouri Southern State.
It's a non-conference game for the two Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association schools. Central Oklahoma head coach Mike Cook said he is ready to see how his team responds to a tough test.
"It'll be a good test for us," Cook said. "We've still got plenty of room to grow and this is a good chance to do that against a good team."
Missouri Southern is 1-2-1 on the season, and has had two games cancelled from its young schedule. Last week, like UCO, Missouri Southern dropped a game to fellow MIAA foe, Northeastern State.
The Bronchos go into Thursday's match 4-1-1 on the year. UCO defeated Southwest Baptist 2-1 on Sunday behind goals from Courtney Essary and Asha Haile.
Essary was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals. The junior midfielder scored against Northeastern State on Friday and then converted a penalty against SBU on Sunday to lead the Bronchos to victory.
Katie Killion leads all scorers for Central with three goals scored. The sophomore forward also has an assist to give her a team-high seven points. Junior forward Mikayla Lowery also has seven points, through two goals and three assists.
UCO continues its short, two-game road trip on Saturday against Southwest Baptist.
