DURANT - The University of Central Oklahoma began its 2016 season with two wins at the Southeastern Oklahoma State Invitational on Friday.

The Bronchos picked up a 3-0 win over Cameron before sweeping through East Central 3-0.

Against Cameron, UCO won the first set 25-7 and had 15 kills with only one error. Cameron put up a little more fight in the second set, but UCO couldn't be deterred. The Bronchos won 25-16 before completing the sweep with a 25-14 win in the final set.

"It was a good overall performance," Central head coach Edgar Miraku said. "It was a good team effort and everyone was very focused at beginning the season in good form."

The fifth-year Broncho coach also said the UCO's hitting was great.

Taylor Bevis led the Bronchos with 10 kills on the day and senior leader Allison Barr added nine. Fulani Petties, a newcomer but a senior as well, added eight kills on the day.

Katy Davis led the Bronchos with an .800 hitting percentage and 38 assists. With over 3,200 career assists, Davis did what Miraku has come to expect.

"We had good production from the middles as well," Miraku said. "We had a good balanced offense, and that's thanks to Katy."

UCO dispatched East Central in its second game of the day. The Bronchos were once again led by Bevis, who had 11 kills. Ijeoma Njenje also tallied 11 kills and Jordan Spence added 10. Davis led the Bronchos with 40 assists.

UCO won 25-11, 25-18 and 25-15.

The Bronchos continue play in Durant on Saturday against Texas A&M International at 10 a.m. and against Southeastern at 5 p.m.
