EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-0 in the UCO Crossover Tournament at Hamilton Field House on Friday.

It was the second win of the day for the Bronchos, who are ranked No. 7 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. UCO beat Northwestern Oklahoma State 3-0 earlier in the day.

The Bronchos took the first set against Southwestern 25-12. Led by Taylor Bevis, who had six kills on 12 attacks with just one error, UCO built a lead early and never looked back. The Bronchos hit .370 as a team in the first set.

The second set saw less errors for UCO, though it only hit .321. Bevis again led the attack with four kills while Jordan Spence added three as UCO won the set 25-16.

The Bronchos clinched the match in the third set, something they've done in 10 of 11 matches this season, 25-13. Bevis solidified an outstanding performance with five more kills and hit .483 in the match, having committed only one error in 29 attacks.

Senior Katy Davis led the way in assists with 38, Spence finished with nine kills, and a big performance from freshman Mehana Fonseca, who had 11 digs to lead the Bronchos, also was key.

The two-day event between schools from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and the Great American Conference continues Saturday at 9 a.m. The Bronchos play at 11 a.m. against East Central, and again at 5 p.m. against Southern Nazarene.
