Bronchos win first match in UCO Crossover Tournament

| By:
EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma won its first match of the UCO Crossover Tournament 3-0 over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday.

The Bronchos improved to 10-0 with the win, which was its ninth win in three sets this season. UCO takes on Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday at 6 p.m.

UCO was tested by Northwestern, which is 0-10 now on the year. The Bronchos played a solid first set and won 25-15 after playing the entire set with no errors.

The second and third sets however, were more difficult. UCO committed seven errors in each set, allowing Northwestern to stay in the hunt.

"We didn't make anything easier on ourselves," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Committing 14 unforced errors is not going to cut it. We have to play better than that.

"Fortunately for us, the girls used their experience to get some points and get the win."

The Bronchos still won the second set 25-18. The third set was Northwestern's best effort but the Bronchos still rallied and won 27-25.

Allison Barr and Taylor Bevis led the Bronchos with nine kills each. Fulani Petties added eight and Alexis Washington seven. Senior setter Katy Davis led the team with 27 assists.
