STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Central Oklahoma improved to 8-0 after beating Texas-Permian Basin in three sets on Saturday at the Tarleton State Classic.

The first set was a 25-9 rout by the Bronchos, but would not be an indication of how the rest of the match played out. UCO had to come from behind in the second and third sets to get the win.

"I'm proud of the way we battled today," Central head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We really had to work to get our points today and the girls did a great job of fighting for that."

UCO won the second set 25-22 and the third set 31-29. The final set was tied at 29 when Ijeoma Njenje put the match away with two of her 13 kills in the match.

Njenje has been playing at a high performance all week and Saturday was no exception. She had 31 attacks against Permian Basin and led the Bronchos with 13 kills. The sophomore had a hitting percentage of just under .300.

Alexis Washington and Fulani Petties also put forth a strong effort in the Broncho attack. Washington had 20 attacks and Petties had 18. Both players finished with six kills.

Katy Davis had 36 assists in the match. Dominique Lipari had 20 digs and Bonnie Vernon added 10.

The Bronchos continue play in the Tarleton Classic with a match against Lubbock Christian at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
