Bronchos Stay Alive

Brock Stuber
ST. CHARLES, Mo. (May 13) – Brock Stuber gave Central Oklahoma a solid start on the mound and Landon Eason drove in three runs to carry Central Oklahoma past Northeastern State 6-2 Friday morning in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament elimination game.

The Bronchos reached the 30-win mark with the victory, improving to 30-21 in keeping their season alive.  UCO will play the Emporia State/Washburn loser at 9 a.m. Saturday in another elimination contest.

"It was a good win for us and we're happy to get a chance to extend our season," head coach John Martin said.  "It's not easy playing early in the morning, but our guys came out ready to go and we played a solid game."

Stuber gave up five hits and two runs while striking out four in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win.  Greg Hyde and Gibson Russ pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to seal the verdict.

Eason went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and tied a single-season school record with his eighth triple to pace a 10-hit attack.  T.J. Sparr also had two hits and Jacob Borrego scored three runs.

UCO took a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Borrego and Eason drew back-to-back one-out walks and Jon Kamies followed with a run-scoring single through the left side.

The Bronchos made it 2-0 in the second on Borrego's sacrifice fly after loading the bases on consecutive one-out singles by Sparr and Chris Lobato and a walk to Jake Dyer.

Eason delivered a two-run base hit in the fifth to push UCO's advantage to 4-0. Dyer led off the frame with a single and went to third on an error that allowed Borrego to reach second before Eason – who had a 31-game hitting streak snapped in Thursday's first-round loss to Emporia State – plated both runners with a single through the right side.

The RiverHawks got two runs back in the seventh, but UCO answered right back in the bottom of that inning.

Borrego had a one-out single and then scored on Eason's record-tying triple to left-center field, with Eason racing home on a passed ball to make it 6-2.
