RiverHawks Down UCO

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (April 2) – Central Oklahoma fell behind early and went on drop a 16-3 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association decision to intrastate rival Northeastern State here Thursday.

The Bronchos gave up five runs in the first two innings in falling into a 5-0 hole and never recovered, with NSU scoring six runs in the seventh to end the game on the 10-run rule.

UCO, now 12-18 overall and 7-13 in the league, takes on the RiverHawks in a 3 p.m. contest here Friday before the two teams end the four-game series with a noon doubleheader Saturday.

"When you don't get quality starting pitching and consistently play from behind it's usually a bad recipe for success," head coach Dax Leone said.  "Baseball is the ultimate game about executing in key moments that determine momentum for that day."

The Bronchos fell behind 9-0 before scoring their only runs in the sixth, getting a two-run single from Dylan Raper and an RBI single from Tyler Hatcher in that frame to make it 9-3.

NSU came right back with one run in its half of the sixth to go up 10-3 and then ended it with a six-run volley in the seventh, capped by a game-ending grand slam.

Raper went 3-for-3 and Jake O'Brien had two hits to lead the offense, but UCO gave up 18 hits in the contest.
