UCO Completes Perfect Weekend

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (Sept. 6) –
Allison Barr had double-digit kills in back-to-back matches to spark Central Oklahoma to a second-day sweep at the Henderson State Invitational here Saturday.
 
Barr had a .417 attack percentage with 12 kills and four assisted blocks in a 25-19, 25-19, 10-25, 25-21 win over Southeastern Oklahoma and hit .500 with a match-high 10 kills in a 25-7, 25-22, 25-18 sweep of McMurry as the Bronchos finished off a perfect 4-0 season-opening weekend.
 
UCO, which lost just one set in the four matches, returns to action next weekend at the Tiger/Savage Storm Classic in Ada and Durant.
 
"It was a good weekend for us and we saw a lot of good things," third-year head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "Katy Davis was running the offense with a lot of confidence and Sabetha Young showed good leadership throughout the weekend.
 
"It's a great start, but we just need to understand that we can't relax and need to keep working hard at getting better every time we step on the court."
 
Barbara Jackson had a match-high 16 kills to go with Barr's 12 in the SOSU win, while Young chipped in nine kills and four assisted blocks and Juliette Smith eight kills.  Davis handed out a career-high assists and added 11 digs, with Whitney Gifford contributing 21 digs.
 
The Bronchos overcame a 15-9 deficit in the first set against the Savage Storm, drawing even at 16-all on a combined block by Barr and Madison King before taking the lead for good on a kill by Gifford.
 
UCO never trailed in taking the second set, then fell in a big hole early in dropping the third set before rebounding in the fourth the end the match.
 
The Bronchos had no trouble with McMurry, trailing only briefly during the second set en route to that sweep.
 
Barr had 10 kills with just one error in 18 attacks in hitting .500 to lead the way.  Erika Warren and King had nine kills apiece as UCO had a .344 attack percentage, with Warren adding five assisted blocks.
 
Davis had another big match with 40 assists, two service aces and two assisted blocks.
