ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Tyler Price made the most of his first start of the season, allowing just three hits in six innings to lead Central Oklahoma to a 3-1 second-game victory that gave the Bronchos a doubleheader sweep of Lindenwood here Saturday afternoon.
UCO, which won the opener 8-2, improved to 28-10 on the season and 22-10 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Lions fell to 15-24 and 12-16 in the MIAA.
Contrary to the first two games of the series, the Bronchos issued only six walks in the two games.
Two pitchers combined to walk two and hit one in the first game, while Phillip Wilson pitched the final five innings to earn his second win of the season and move to 2-0.
Price allowed just three hits and walked one in the nightcap as he improved to 2-1. LU loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh in scoring their only run, but Ricky Reeves got the final two outs to earn the save.
"I'm proud of the way our team responded after a disappointing performance yesterday," head coach Dax Leone said. "We pitched well and played good defense behind them and really limited their scoring opportunities, and that is a winning formula."
In the first game, the Bronchos rallied from a 2-0 deficit with five runs in the third inning. It was UCO that took advantage of the free bases it was given as Robbie Hoffman was hit by pitch with the bases loaded and Jake O'Brien reached on an error in the outfield that brought in two more runs.
The Bronchos got all the runs they needed in the nightcap second inning as Dilon Argo had an RBI single and Wilson was walked with the bases loaded to make it 2-0. Cesar Wong plated an insurance run in the fifth with a run-scoring single to make it 3-0.
The Bronchos return to Wendell Simmons Field on Tuesday to play a doubleheader against Hillsdale Baptist starting at 1:30.
