ST. CHARLES, Mo. (April 10) – Central Oklahoma scored six runs in the seventh inning as Lindenwood committed a costly error that opened the door and the Bronchos went on to an 11-5 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athleti cs Association victory here Thursday night.
UCO had the bases loaded and two outs in a 5-5 game in the top of the eighth when Matt Johnson came to the plate and reached on an error by the first baseman that plated three runs and Johnson sent to third. The Bronchos added run-scoring doubles by Josh Ingram and Jake O'Brien in tacking on three more runs to go ahead 11-5.
Phillip Wilson came on in relief and recorded the final six outs to close out the game.
UCO improved to 26-9 on the season and 20-9 in conference play, while the Lions fell to 14-22 and 11-14. The Bronchos are currently in second place in the standings, 3 ½ games behind front runner Central Missouri.
UCO finished with 14 hits, led by Ingram's 3-for-5 night at the plate. O'Brien, Tyler Crabtree and Matt Johnson added two hits apiece.
The Bronchos jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind starter Jared Sterling and took advantage of five Lion errors. Only one of UCO's 11 runs was earned.
Sterling could not get out of the fifth as six straight hitters reached with two outs and the Lions plated five runs to tie the game.
The bullpen took over and pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings to end the game. Tanner Ferrell got the final two outs of the seventh inning and recorded his first win of the season.
The four-game series continues Friday with a 6 p.m. single game and ends with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Satruday.
