BOLIVAR, Mo. (March 6) – The Central Oklahoma pitching staff walked eight batters, including three in the bottom of the ninth inning that brought home the winning run as the Bronchos lost to Southwest Baptist, 4-3, here Friday afternoon.
Phillip Wilson tied the game at 3-all in the top of the ninth with an run-scoring single, but the Bearcats rallied in the bottom of the ninth behind a single and three walks.
"Basically when you do not play clean baseball and walk people, you are going to lose a majority of the time," head coach Dax Leone said. "We came out flat and credit Southwest Baptist for making us pay for it."
Landon Hallam started on the mound for the Bronchos and allowed just three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings, but he also issued five free passes. Two fifth-inning walks set up Spencer Blackshear for a three-run home run that gave SBU a 3-2 lead.
That lead hold up until the ninth when Wilson tied it with his second RBI single of the game.
Wilson and Dylan Raper had two hits apiece for UCO, which fell to 9-4 on the season and 5-4 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.
The teams meet for a doubleheader Friday, with first pitch slated for noon. UCO's probable starters are Ricky Reeves and Mason Justice.
